ABITARE L’ARCHIVIO

Con Abitare l’archivio le pratiche e i metodi adottati da TAB per promuovere la ricerca bibliografica in contesti di apprendimento informale entrano nello spazio fisico e digitale di documenti, opere, libri e cartografie dei principali nuclei e raccolte dell’Archivio Luciano Caruso. I laboratori e workshop sono stati progettati ed ispirati in particolare dall’opera di Luciano Caruso Continuum n.4 / Stupidità del 1970 e dall’etimologia del termine stupidità, che trova radice nel verbo latino stupēre, teso ad indicare una condizione indotta da stupore: un’emozione positiva che dopo un primo stordimento prepara il terreno alla conoscenza. Con ABITARE L’ARCHIVIO, nato da un lavoro di co-progettazione tra  l’Archivio e TAB, sperimenteremo pratiche di ricerca non convenzionale attraverso l’interazione con il patrimonio dell’Archivio stesso, sia nella sua dimensione fisica che digitale. La progettazione di ABITARE L’ARCHIVIO è stata resa possibile grazie al contributo della Regione Toscana per Toscanaincontemporanea 2021.

INHABITING THE ARCHIVE will breathe new life into the physical and digital spaces of the documents, artworks, books, cartographs included in the Luciano Caruso Archive. It will do so by using TAB’s practices and methodologies, which are aimed at promoting bibliographic research within informal learning contexts. Workshops have been inspired by Luciano Caruso’s Continuum n.4/ 1970 Stupidità, and particularly by the etymology of the word stupidity: the verb stupēre – which indicates a wonder-induced condition and a positive emotion that results from an initial dizziness, which paves the way for the acquisition of  knowledge. ABITARE L’ARCHIVIO [ – INHABITING THE ARCHIVE], is a  project that results from the collaboration between the Archive and TAB. We are going to experiment with non-conventional research practices via an interaction with the archive’s heritage in its physical and digital dimensions. The project has been realized thanks to the Tuscany Region’s fund Toscanaincontemporanea 2021.

L’Archivio Luciano Caruso, piccolo tesoro nel cuore di Firenze, racconta la vicenda umana e artistica del poeta e artista Luciano Caruso. Oltre alla documentazione completa della sua attività multiforme, comprende una ricca raccolta delle sue creazioni artistiche, delle sue pubblicazioni e la sua biblioteca. Tra i nuclei più importanti ci sono quelli riguardanti le avanguardie storiche e neoavanguardie, il lettrismo, il situazionismo, la sperimentazione verbo visiva e  i libri d’artista. Seguendo un approccio interdisciplinare, l'archivio permette di cogliere  i legami tra documenti di diverse tipologie (manoscritti, opere d’arte, materiale a stampa) facendo emergere la varietà della produzione dell’artista, sia dal punto di vista del contenuto che da quello dei mezzi scelti.

The Luciano Caruso Archive is a little treasure in the heart of Florence that tells the story and the artistic trajectory of poet and artist Luciano Caruso. In addition to the complete documentation of the artist’s manifold activity, the archive includes a rich collection of his artworks, his publications and his personal library. Among the most important pieces are those about historical avant-gardes and neo avant-gardes, letterism, situationism, word-visual experimentation and artists books. Following an interdisciplinary approach, the archive allows to grasp the links between different types of documents (manuscripts, artworks, print material), highlighting the variety of the artist’s production, both from the point of view of the material and the selected mediums.

PROGRAMMA / PROGRAM

Il 10 dicembre alle ore 19, attraverso il coinvolgimento di 4 volontari e volontarie, testeremo la prima attività di Abitare l’Archivio: Stupor. Per un'ora, guidati da una fanzine e un archivista, i partecipanti saranno coinvolti nella scoperta e nell'esplorazione degli spazi e delle fonti dell’Archivio Luciano Caruso. A partire dalle libere associazioni tra uno stimolo iniziale fornito dalla fanzine e le risonanze con lo spazio e le fonti, ogni partecipante potrà individuarne alcune, maneggiarle, leggerle e osservarle mettendo in atto una strategia di conoscenza spaziale, aptica e cognitiva dell’Archivio. Una copia dell'esito di questa esplorazione e interazione intima con il luogo rimarrà ai partecipanti e l’originale entrerà a far parte dell’Archivio stesso.

We are looking for 4 volunteers to test Stupor, the first activity scheduled for Inhabiting the Archive. The event will kick off on December 10th, 7pm. Guided by a fanzine and an archivist, participants will explore the Luciano Caruso Archive and its material. A cognitive, haptic, space-based knowledge will be enabled  by the participants’ interaction with the Archive and triggered by a free association that the participants will be asked to make with their surrounding after receiving an initial provocation by the fanzine. From here, participants will be able to single out, look at, touch and read sources of their interest included in the Archive. At the end of the activity, participants will receive a free copy of the outcome of this intimate exploration, while the original will become part of the Archive.

Il 15 dicembre alle ore 18.00 alle ore 19.00 l’Archivio Luciano Caruso e TAB propongono un webinar di presentazione dei tre percorsi esplorativi e interpretativi delle fonti digitali e fisiche dell’archivio co-progettate insieme per il progetto ABITARE L’ARCHIVIO pensati rispettivamente per un pubblico scolastico, in particolare per la scuola primaria; quello universitario e di alta formazione in ambito artistico e creativo; infine quello per persone dai 16 anni in su. Gli esiti dell'esperimento di questa ultima tipologia di attività - che si terrà il 10 dicembre -  saranno presentati durante il webinar.

Educator*, archivist*, artist*, curios* e interessat* sono invitat* a partecipare per scoprire le prospettive di coinvolgimento di non addetti e addette ai lavori nella fruizione sperimentale di patrimonio archivistico.

Per l'occasione sarà presentato anche il nuovo sito dell’archivio Luciano Caruso archiviolucianocaruso.org per conoscere insieme, guidati da un’archivista, questo nuovo spazio digitale di catalogazione e inventariazione digitale.


Join the webinar organised by the Luciano Caruso Archive and TAB on 15th December, 7PM, to learn about the three activities designed for Inhabiting the Archive.
Particularly aimed at primary school students, university students, young researchers oriented towards arts, humanities and creative learning pathways, and more generally, to an audience older than 16, the activities are aimed at exploring and interpreting the physical and digital sources of the Archive. The results of this first type of activity – which will take place on December 10 th – will be presented during the webinar.
Educators, archivists, artists, curious and interested people are all invited to participate and learn about the new prospects for the experimental fruition both for professional insiders and non-experts of the archival material.
For the occasion, the brand new Luciano Caruso Archive website archiviolucianocaruso.org will also be presented. This will be an
occasion to learn together how the new platform for the digital cataloguing works.
